The kingfisher is a small to medium sized colorful bird generally found close to water. There are nearly 100 different species of the kingfisher bird found around the world.
The profile of the Belted Kingfisher is unmistakable and a common sight on waterways. They can be seen perching patiently on a branch and then diving into the water with a loud splash as it strikes its prey. The swooping dive is usually the last thing the Kingfisher prey sees or senses. The delicate tone on tone plumage stippling may lead unwary prey to believe a beaky flower is resident above.

Fish are its primary diet, although it will also feed on larger insects and even frogs. They are noted for their spectacular dives into water and are most famous for hunting and eating fish.
